It’s a psychedelic rock
tour-de-force: 3 of Auckland's finest guitar bands combine
forces for an aural onslaught of twisted pop and deep psych
vibes.
Seeds of Orbit have listened to
the people’s pleas for a mighty homegrown psychedelic band
– and boy, have they answered them. Something of a
supergroup, this three-piece has a deep love for heavy mod,
stoner rock and acid folk. Made up of Mark
Petersound (aka Mark Petersen –
Straitjacket Fits, Cabbage Bomber, Shaft),
Bridgette Bowie (The Doris Days,
Cabbage Bomber and legendary all-girl punk band
Fake Purr), and Marty Doo
(NZ: The Beads; Australia:
Glide, Challenger 7, Scruffs, Grapefruit), their
mind-alteringly psychedelic debut EP ‘Seeds of Orbit’ is
out now on Powertool Records – and they really bring it to
life when they play live!

The Roulettes’
second, self-titled album is definitive of the
band’s predilections, obsessions and strengths. Short
punchy rock/pop gems with lyrics to pay attention to are
delivered with maximum energy. The
Roulettes was formed by Benand
Justin in Auckland in the early 2000s from
the ashes of alcohol-fuelled Dunedin rock’n’roll bands
(Funhouse, Bike). They released two EPs
(You Want It and Unread Books) before settling on the
ever-awesome Mark Queenin (Bike,
Garageland) on drums.“Located between power pop,
indie rock and with a fine sense of focused economy…
(songs which) would slip in comfortably alongside the best
of US indie rock…” Graham Reid, www.elsewhere.co.nz
