Vorn ‘More Songs About Girls and the Apocalypse’
‘Cult Artist of this or any year’ (Graham Reid – Elsewhere.co.nz)
“More of the wayward genius of Vorn Colgan”. Any year that sees the release of a new Vom album is a good year. And it’s not before time – it’s been three years since the release of 2011's ‘Down For It’.
‘More Songs About Girls and the Apocalypse’ is worth the wait: this is a rich and heady songwriting brew, the kind of
album that rewards repeat listening. The kind of album people return to again and again to discover afresh. But you know
the drill: "Local man hones craft over 7 albums and 15 years, culminating predictably in strongest work to date" is not
the stuff of which soundbites are made. But then maybe, just maybe, if the work is good enough, soundbites are not
required.
Here are some pieces from a sparkling first review:
Vorn: More Songs About Girls and the Apocalypse: "More of the wayward genius of Vorn Colgan, whose every album is almost
inevitably acclaimed as his best yet. This may well always be true, and any album which has a rapping track entitled The
War Cry of J Alfred Prufrock (as this one has) …is probably a serious contender for the title Cult Artist of This Or Any
Year. Discover him if you haven't already. It's always quite a ride.”
