Kathmandu + Outward Bound to Live the Dream -Scholarship Recipients Announced -

Four New Zealanders will live their dreams this year, embarking on an Outward Bound adventure course in Anakiwa, Marlborough Sounds.

Victoria Onyon (Thorndon, Wellington), Amanda Chibnall (Henderson, Auckland), Vaughan Evans (Mangere Bridge, Auckland) and Andy Gowland-Douglas (Rototuna, Hamilton) are winners of the annual Kathmandu Live the Dream Outward Bound Scholarships.

The four recipients were selected from hundreds of New Zealanders who expressed 200-word entries about why they want to attend Outward Bound.

Wellington’s Victoria Onyon says “Attending an Outward Bound course has been a dream for me for some time. It will help me push my boundaries physically and emotionally, giving me confidence to make strong choices in my life.

“After a pretty tough few years supporting my father while he battled stage four cancer, I’m looking forward to having the time and space to reflect on who I am and where I want to be” said the 24 year old.

The scholarship programme aims to provide more New Zealanders with the opportunity to embark on a journey of self-discovery by completing the outdoor adventure course.
Forty eight year old Auckland woman, Amanda Chibnnall says, “I can’t wait to get to Outward Bound. I’m a mother of two, and my husband and I have worked hard to give our girls the opportunity to be the best they can be. This is a chance for me to take some time out to understand my own goals, and to find confidence to realise what I am truly capable of.”

Outward Bound offers courses for many age groups and abilities. “The partnership with Kathmandu has been a great opportunity for us to reach out to more people in the community. We’re really looking forward to welcoming these scholarship winners to Anakiwa, to help them reach their full potential through the outdoors,” says Rob MacLean, Outward Bound School Director.

The Kathmandu Live the Dream scholarships have been awarded to 56 New Zealanders since the programme began in 2005. As part of the relationship between the two organisations, Outward Bound also field tests outdoor equipment for Kathmandu.
