Appliance Shed Fox Memorial round preview and fixtures

A fierce local derby starts off round eight of the Appliance Shed Fox Memorial Premiership, with Mangere East travelling to take on Otahuhu at Bert Henman Park.

Both sides come off commanding victories last week, and sit tied on four points, closer to the foot of the table than they are to the top.

The match, which doubles as the ARL Game of the Round, will also see two of the Auckland competition’s most promising young centres squaring off. Christian Mika and Mangere East counterpart Ofahiki Ogden are sure to provide plenty of excitement out wide.

A replay of the 2012 Fox final is set up for Harold Moody Park, when Glenora host Mt Albert.

Although Glenora are a shade of the team that went all the way to the decider that year, this game always generates plenty of interest.

The Richmond Bulldogs are staring down the barrel of going through the entire first round of the competition without a win, and their task doesn’t get any easier this week, taking on the table-topping Pt Chevalier Pirates.

The Pirates have been down on troops of late, but seem to have quality players growing on trees out at Walker Park - last week former Warrior Wairangi Koopu turned out for them, scoring a couple of tries.

Howick need a victory over Northcote to keep contact with Mt Albert and Pt Chevalier at the top.

The Hornets will rely heavily on their dynamic backline, which includes the competition’s highest try scorer, Tyrone Tofilau.

Papakura and Marist finish off the round out at Prince Edward Park, with the winner likely to hold the fourth playoff spot by the end of the weekend.
