Celebrating Young People and Their Successes

Wellington, May, 16, 2014 - Ara Taiohi Youth Week 2014 kicks off tomorrow with events being held nationwide to celebrate young people and their contributions to the community. The theme for the week, which lasts from 17 – 25 May, is ‘Be the Change’, an active theme encouraging young people and adults to make positive change in their communities.

Sonya Hogan, EO of Ara Taiohi explained, “This year’s theme 'Be the Change’ is a great chance for young people to take action and influence change in their communities. We encourage you to get behind Youth Week this year and join with us in celebrating our young people.”

Celebrations happen around New Zealand – visit http://arataiohi.org.nz/YWevents2014 for a selection of the events happening, including the Youth Week 2014 awards. Awards will be presented to young people by Youth Affairs Minister Nikki Kaye recognising outstanding young community members on Tuesday 20 May in the Banquet Hall, Parliament Buildings, Wellington. The four award categories are; the Leadership Award, Change Maker Award, Giving Back Award and Working for Young People Award.

About Ara Taiohi Youth Week New Zealand
Ara Taiohi Youth Week is a yearly nationwide festival of events organised by young New Zealanders to celebrate the talents, passion and success of local young people. In 2014 it will be held from 17th to 25th May. Youth Week events are designed to encourage young people to take on challenges, share ideas and focus on the positive aspects of being young.
