Raiders set standard for L4L clubs
Hibiscus Coast Raiders will become the first recipients of a League 4 Life club award, after successfully piloting the
programme in their community.
The L4L club development programme was introduced four years ago, as part of NZ Rugby League's "more than just a game"
philosophy, to help clubs provide the best possible environment for their members and their wider community.
Several key health and sporting organisations contributed to the action-based accreditation criteria that target three
specific areas - rugby league skills and safety fundamentals, responsible drinking and smoke-free environments, and
healthy food choices and men's health.
Hibiscus Coast, where NZ Kiwis and Warriors star Shaun Johnson played his junior football, has achieved the required
standards with flying colours, implementing measures that have addressed all these issues.
This Saturday, the Raiders will host a full range of games through all age groups, from junior "mini mods" through to a
Phelan Shield premier clash against Pakuranga Jaguars, and culminating in a plaque presentation by NZRL chief executive
Phil Holden.
"Hibiscus Coast has really embraced what this League 4 Life club programme is all about, introducing a raft of
initiatives that benefit its members and its wider community," says Holden.
"This proactive approach is an indicator of where we see the League 4 Life foundation heading in the future, so the
Raiders stand as the benchmark for all our clubs around the country."
