Berlin, 12 May 2014 - The online dating site ELITESINGLES recently polled 115 singles in Australia and New Zealand about their sexual experiences at work, revealing New Zealanders to be considerably more sensible than their Australian counterparts.
While 38% of Australians admitted to having sex at the office, the same was true of just 15% of New Zealanders in the survey. The difference between the nations was especially evident when it came to men: 16% of male New Zealanders have had sex at work in the past, compared to 50% of the Australians polled.
Unsurprisingly perhaps, it seems men are much more willing to follow through with their fantasies than women. While 50% of Kiwi women (82% of men) admitted to having had sexual fantasies about a colleague, and 60% routinely engage in flirting, men are clearly more willing to take things further: 35% said they would do it –compared to just 21% of women.
The hotspots for office romance are those offering seclusion; in particular conference rooms and personal offices. These were the locations most fantasised about for women (32% and 29%), and equally where respondents have had the most experience, with 13% of men (and 11% of women) having already had an encounter in their office, and 20% and 3% in a conference room.
What about the ‘classic’ office sex locations? Only 3% of women (19% of men) see the photocopier as an attractive proposition. The lifts are similarly untouched – although 17% of women admitted to fancying the idea (22% of men), none admitted to making this a reality. The storage room is perhaps the place which most fulfills the stereotype: 35% of men and 20% of women would be tempted by an encounter here– although just 2% of women and 15% of men have to-date.
