ALL NEW HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI HITS THE ROAD IN 2014
Maori Television’s long-running Friday night entertainment spectacular, HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI, is back and relaunching with a whole bunch of exciting new elements.
Hosted by Brent Mio, the new series starts on Friday May 23 at 8.30pm.
The all new HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI will be open to anyone aged 12 and over, and will also give paki (contestants) the option to:
• perform with instruments (wind, strings or keys)
• sing as a soloist
• sing as a duet or as a trio
• sing to karaoke
• sing an original composition or cover
Other exciting changes include more places on the live show for contestants who audition online through ‘Pick Me Paki’.
To top it off, HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI is also hitting the road for the first time, with regional auditions being held in Gisborne on June 15, Rotorua on July 26 and Kaitaia on August 24.
Producer Erina Tamepo says the changes to the series will boost the show’s grassroots appeal.
“It is a show about the people for the people and we want to extend the platform so that they can show us what they’ve got.
“We’re hoping to see a lot of new talent come through to the Maori Television studio in 2014.”
Tamepo says regional auditions will give more people the chance to take part in the show.
“We wanted to take HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI auditions on the road so that our paki have the chance to meet presenters and find out what it’s like without having to travel too far.”
Each of the 20 heats will feature six contestants, including spots saved for the ‘Pick Me Paki’ performers selected from the regional tour as well as via clips uploaded to Maori Television’s website.
Winners are decided by text vote, with a $1000 prize up for grabs each week as well as a 2degrees phone for first and second placegetters.
Those who make it through to the Grand Final on October 14 will compete for $20,000 in prize money and the latest mobile phone package from the show’s major sponsor 2degrees.
HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI starts on Friday, May 23, with registrations for that night’s show opening at 3.00pm at Maori Television’s Newmarket studios.
