International roller derby game to draw the crowds
Wellington’s Richter City Roller Derby has gone from strength to strength. Out to prove it on the track, the Richter City All Stars will play not one, but two games thisSaturday 10 May at TSB Arena. The Wellington league will play host to recent opponents, the Pirate City All Scars of Auckland, and Paradise City Rollers from the Gold Coast.
Now internationally affiliated with the governing body of Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby, the Richter City All Stars are able to earn an international ranking. With the first ever sanctioned New Zealand game under their belts, Richter City are keen to prove they have what it takes to keep up momentum.
“We’re stoked to host both of these leagues in Wellington, and show them what the capital has to offer,” shared team captain, Ella Kazam.
After a strong year in 2013 seeing the All Stars place third at the national roller derby tournament, Richter City Roller Derby is keeping up momentum. However, a narrow loss to Auckland’s All Scars in April has seen the team double their efforts.
“These two games will help us establish where we are ranking not only in New Zealand and Australia, but also internationally. Roller derby has really exploded over the last five years, and we’re proud to be keeping up with the developing style of play. The audience this weekend can expect to see high calibre games from the sport that has been taking the world by storm!”
Tickets are on sale now through Ticketek.co.nz. Adult tickets are $15 plus booking fee for one game, or $40+bf for three; child tickets are $10+bf for one, or $25+bf for three.
