Culinary festival sets the table for 2014
New Zealand’s premier culinary festival, Visa Wellington On a Plate, is set to serve its sixth course of good times and great deals from 15-31 August.
Festival Director Sarah Meikle says all the ingredients for this year’s programme have now been compiled, with 98 eateries signed up to DINE Wellington, 69 Garage Project presents Burger Wellington entries and 119 Festival Events on the menu.
“The 17-day culinary event is really thriving. In just six short years, DINE Wellington participation has increased over 150% and the Festival Events programme has surged eight-fold.
“The festival has quickly earned its place as a must-do event - one that sees people actually highly anticipating the depths of winter!”
Alongside showcasing local produce at its best, this year sees the return of festival favourites including Beervana.
All Festival Event tickets will be available from VisaWellingtonOnaPlate.com. For Visa cardholders, tickets will go on sale through a Visa PreSale from 9am on Monday 16 June. Following this, a general ticket release will commence at 12 noon on Wednesday 18 June.
The full Visa Wellington On a Plate programme will be revealed at the official media launch on Thursday 05 June.
Developed in partnership by Positively Wellington Tourism and Grow Wellington in 2009, this year marks the transition of the festival into the Wellington Culinary Events Trust.
Ms Meikle, who was recently appointed as Chief Executive of the trust, says the new structure will ensure the trust’s focus is on a year-round proposition.
“The aim is to attract more out-of-town visitors to the event, and develop further opportunities to support Wellington’s culinary offer 365 days per year.”
