New Zealand travellers long for home tucker
After family and home, kiwi business people miss home cooking, a good cuppa and their own pillow, when away for work
30th April 2014 – Kiwis miss their home comforts more so than the rest of the world, according to new research from global workplace provider Regus, who recently quizzed business travellers about the things they miss most when on the road.
New Zealand business travellers are more likely than their global counterparts to miss their family (80%) and home (48%). When it comes to the smaller things in life Kiwis yearn for home-cooking (30%), their pillows (20%) and their own type of coffee and tea (15%). Interestingly, only 11% of respondents admitted to missing their pets while away.
Nearly half of the NZ respondents said they are more willing to travel for business than ten years ago (44%), compared to 28% who stated they were less willing.
While most respondents answered with a myriad of homely factors, 13% revealed they missed nothing about home, which falls in line with the global average of 14%.
Other findings show:
· Only 2% reported that they miss New Zealand’s wild weather while away.
· In comparison with the global average of 17%, New Zealand travellers are quite comfortable encountering other languages, with the research revealing only 4% of miss speaking their own language.
· Globally, Generation X and Baby Boomers are less likely to be willing to travel for work with family commitments taking their toll.
· Generation X, who are most likely to have young children, are also the most likely to miss their family (73%).
Regus Country Manager Nick Bradshaw said: “Travelling for work can be a stressful experience, from being away from your family to the simple absent comfort of your own pillow. At Regus we have many business travellers who visit our drop in business lounges in our 1800 worldwide locations, so we hear a lot of stories from people missing their home comforts.
“We are increasingly seeing businesses utilise our suites with HD video conferencing facilities to avoid the hassle and costs associated with business travel.
“With more technologies available, businesses can maintain their international relations, save on costs, and improve worker satisfaction by keeping them close to their families and homes.”
