10 good reasons to visit The Food Show Wellington
The Westpac Stadium is set to explode into culinary high gear when it hosts The Food Show Wellington from 9 to 11 May 2014, just in time for Mother’s Day.
The Food Show contains arguably New Zealand’s greatest selection of food, drink, and kitchen equipment to sample and take home – reason enough to visit, you might think. However, here are 10 more reasons you might not have thought of:
1.Whirlpool ‘Cooking Theatre’ – fill your boots with free, world-class cooking demos in the Whirlpool Cooking Theatre from the likes of Julie Le Clerc, Peta Mathias, Martin Bosley, Chelsea Winter, Nadia Lim, Justin North, Ray McVinnie, and more. Plus, cooking live on Sunday will be Karena and Kasey Bird from Maketu in the Bay of Plenty, who are currently competing to take out top spot on MasterChef New Zealand.
2.Kenwood ‘New Generation Game’ – at the Kenwood stand top local chefs will demonstrate fab recipes using Kenwood equipment and you’ll be able to compete against NZ celebs to win fantastic prizes from Kenwood in the ‘New Generation Game’, an update on the classic Bruce Forsyth game show. It’s your chance to pit yourself against the likes of Good Morning’s Sarah Bradley, MasterChef NZ 2010 winner Brett McGregor, Classic Hits Radio Host Camille Guzwell, MasterChef NZ 2012 winner Chelsea Winter, and others.
3.Good Magazine ‘Healthy Living Zone’ – a very special feature area where you can try and buy health-giving products such as Manuka products from The Manuka Shop, German-made Stoneline cookware, Steel Fern pressure cookers, the Heart Foundation Tick programme, and more.
4.Genesis Energy ‘Cooking with Gas’ feature – the Official Energy Sponsor of The Food Show 2014 is proud to be energising The Food Show Wellington. When the hard work of shopping for delicious foods and drinks wears you down, a visit the Genesis stand will pick you up with tasty Food Show creations, giveaways, great show specials on electricity, natural gas, and LPG, and the chance to WIN.
5.New products and exhibitors – discover new things you might not otherwise have heard of, including Donovans Turkish Delight and Chocolate Caramels, Misomite from Urban Hippie, Maille Mustard, Meyer Gouda Cheese, Tom's Chimney Cakes, Natural Almond Butter from Chantal Organics, Spicy Fig Chutney from Te Mata Figs, high quality handmade Masakage knives from ProChef, litterless lunch wraps and eco drink bottles from Munch, roasted chestnuts from E-Pacs Supermart, and more.
6.Seriously large range of liquid refreshments – including coffees from De'Longhi, Nespresso, Allpress, Zampelle's, Coffex, and Jed's Coffee, plus wines from Ara Wines, Brown Brothers, Clearview, Durbanville Hills, Esk Valley, Forrest, Giesen, Hawks Ridge, Johner, Kalex, Kim Crawford, Lynfer, Moana Park, Opawa, Sacred Hill, and Tohu. And be sure to sample international spirits from Brandhouse, including Croizet Cognac.
7.Heritage Hotels – the Official Accommodation Sponsor of The Food Show 2014 is evolving its menus to include more healthy, plant-based food options and more locally sourced, sustainable, free range, and fair trade ingredients. You can experience this for yourself with a special offer of $169 per night at Heritage Wellesley Boutique Hotel for visitors to The Food Show Wellington. The package includes one night's accommodation, a bottle of wine, a delicious sweet treat, a copy of Good Magazine, and a 20% discount on Continental Breakfast the next morning.
8.Groovy kitchen gadgets – including popcorn makers from The Homestore, the amazing Butter Cup that keeps your butter fresh and spreadable without refrigeration, Zeropak Vacuum Sealers, the Miracle Whisk that helps you effortlessly whisk like a pro chef, non-stick cooking and baking liners from Cook Fat Free, Titan Knives, and more.
9.Wellington Culinary Fare – the annual showcase for Wellington chefs, trainees, baristas, and hotel room attendants, presented by the NZ Chefs Association. It features live cookery, hospitality challenges like the ever-popular ‘Bed Making Magic’ contest, and static cookery events like cake decoration – and there’ll also be opportunities for kids to decorate pavlovas and chocolate truffles. Plus chef apprentices and their mentors will cook a special Mothers Day two-course lunch (including a glass of wine) on the Sunday. Tickets for the lunch are $30 each and available at www.nzchefs.org.nz/culinaryshop.
10.Local to Wellington – indulge in a little parochial pride with Wunderbites healthy snacks, coffee roasters Zampelle's, Huffman's handmade hot sauces, T Leaf T, ZillyAnt from the Kapiti Coast, Adventure Travel Wellington, Butlers Chocolate Café, House of Dumplings, and more.
