Pukeiti to host third 'Puffer' fun run for charity
Pukeiti to host third 'Puffer' fun run for
charity
21 April 2014
The countdown has started for this year’s ‘Pukeiti Puffer’, a charity fun run with a difference that has become firmly established on the Taranaki events calendar.
Now in its third year, the Puffer attracts hundreds of people for a day of family-oriented activity against a backdrop of world-class gardens and stunning rainforest. This year’s event is on Sunday 4 May.
The Puffer offers three courses ranging from a 2km children’s fun run, a 7.5km walk- and-run event to a 14.5km challenge for adults, all organised by Athletics Taranaki and the Shoe Clinic to raise funds for the Cameron Clow Trust.
The fun runs will be held in conjunction with a ‘Pukeiti Explorer’ fun day featuring games, bouncy castle and barbecue.
Fun run numbers are limited and registrations are required by 30 April. The 2km kids event is a gold coin donation, while 7.5km event costs $5 and the 14.5km costs $10. See www.pukeiti.org.nz for more registration details, or call into the Shoe Clinic, 87 Devon Street East, New Plymouth.
“It’s a great opportunity to check out the new tree huts, signage and track upgrades that have taken place at Pukeiti over the past year,” says the Taranaki Regional Council’s Regional Gardens Manager, Greg Rine.
“And the rainforest environment will give these fun runs a special element. The two longer events will include stream crossings and good hill climbs. The 2 km kids’ event will be held on flat grass tracks.
“If Mum or Dad want to enter the 7.5km or 14.5km events, there’ll be plenty of fun activities on the main lawn to keep the children occupied.
“But it’s important for people to register in advance – we need to keep tabs on numbers.”
Entry to Pukeiti is free and visitors are advised to bring a picnic lunch, drinks, sunblock, hat and gummies. The event will take place regardless of the weather.
