New Zealand Fashion Week Just 19 Weeks Away
New Zealand’s only international Fashion Week is stronger than ever
The dates are set for the biggest show in New Zealand fashion and with just 19 weeks to go until opening night, the event is taking shape.
New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) kicks off on Monday 25th August and finishing one week earlier than New York Fashion Week. This change ensures all local and international media wanting to attend the NZFW can work their schedules around both events.
The first three days of the event feature designers showing forward season collections to international and domestic media, buyers and industry spectators and their own invited guests.
The fashion loving public gets their chance to experience New Zealand’s most fashionable week, with Designer Selections shows on Wednesday and Thursday nights followed by three days of in-season designer shows, seminars and parties over NZ Fashion Weekend.
NZFW Managing Director Dame Pieter Stewart DNZM is excited about the positive buzz growing around the industry and this year’s event.
“For any designer serious about developing export markets, NZFW is the only platform on which they can showcase their collection to an international audience. This year we’ve seen an uplift in confidence from international fashion markets and from designers, there’s a renewed sense of optimism around the industry which will translate to a strong line up of designers at NZFW, with a number already confirmed to show,” says Stewart.
“Last year we hosted some fantastic international guests, including representatives from ASOS, My-Wardrobe, Electric Sekki, Fei Space and Bauhaus of Hong Kong. Our focus for attracting international media and buyers was the Asian and Australian markets, and even though some press attended from the US, this year we are looking closer at this market again, as the retail climate improves and with NZ designers showing a renewed interest in gaining traction in the US market.”
“Sponsorship is also looking strong. After experiencing the effects of a tight sponsorship environment, the playing field is changing and we’re seeing a renewed level of interest from sponsors looking at quality events like NZFW to partner with,” added Stewart.
This year the NZFW venue will have a new look, with a marquee showroom, The Tent delivering a smaller and more intimate environment for up to 240 guests. The capacity of the main showroom The Runway will also be adaptable, catering for either 500 or 800 guests, responding effectively to designers’ changing needs.
The level 2 showroom makes way for an extra premium hosting space, with its own bar and even more access to the beautiful views of Auckland city, meaning more places to enjoy a drink and soak up the NZFW atmosphere.
NZ Fashion Weekend for the Public
With designers looking for more opportunities to show their in-season collections direct to the public, NZ Fashion Weekend is going from strength to strength. The Weekend gives fashion lovers a chance to experience all the fun and excitement created by NZFW, with a relaxed and friendly vibe.
Designer Selection (DS) shows will run on Wednesday and Thursday nights and throughout the Weekend, providing fantastic entertainment for the ultimate girl’s night out. With at least three garments from every designer at NZFW on the catwalk, the DS show is the longest of the week and comes with an amazing goodie bag for everyone who attends.
The Weekend schedule will be packed with amazing opportunities for fashionistas to soak up the NZ Fashion Weekend atmosphere. From the styliest Friday night party in town to the famous NZ Fashion Weekend garage sale, with shows from some of New Zealand’s best designers and seminar sessions from our hottest fashion talents, the Viaduct Events Centre during NZ Fashion Weekend will be THE place to be if you love fashion.
NZ Fashion Weekend is also full of exciting activations. It’s a great place to relax and spend the day shopping, sampling and trying the latest makeup and seasonal hair styles.
Tickets for NZFW public shows will be on sale from June, with early bird tickets available to loyal followers of the event. Public sales to a packed schedule of entertainment will be available from early July.
