Last Exit to Muzai – Goodbye Auckland
MUZAI: Year 5
The Wine Cellar and Whammy Bar, St Kevin’s Arcade, Auckland – 17th May 2014
Auckland independent record label MUZAI Records have achieved a feat that still never ceases to amaze them – they’re still operational. More-so, they’ve been going for five years; that’s half a decade, for the mathematically inclined.
Cue vast amounts of back slapping and handshakes for lasting that lot. Thank you, thank you…
It just so happens that the label is also leaving New Zealand this year, and basing itself in the sunnier climates of Manchester, England - thus becoming (to the best of our knowledge) the world's first "British-based New Zealand record label."
MUZAI Records have always had an annual get together during New Zealand Music Month – something they consider their musical equivalent of Wrestlemania. This time however is their last anniversary show on New Zealand soil. Cue sighs of sadness or relief, pending on your disposition…
Taking place at two venues who have supported them throughout their tenure in New Zealand – The Wine Cellar and Whammy Bar – this last stand of MUZAI bands and friends brings together some of the best alternative music that the country has to offer; different, sometimes transgressive, other times “weird”, but all part of a community that has on a number of occasions supported one another… and some comrades along the way.
Apparently you can’t have live music also without cheap drinks – so the good folk at Sapporo and Coopers have graciously helped us out in that department, while we give thanks to Cheese on Toast for their support during our time on transition.
Come along – we don’t think there’s anything better to do on May 17th…
Thanks to our supporters: Coopers, Sapporo and Cheese on Toast.co.nz.
