2014 EECA Awards finalists revealed
New Zealand’s most exciting energy-saving and renewable energy projects have been revealed, with the 2014 EECA Awards
finalists announced today.
The EECA Awards celebrate excellence and innovation in energy efficiency or renewable energy. This year, a record 150
entries were received across ten categories.
“We’ve had an excellent range of high-quality entries this year, giving rise to a first-rate group of finalists,” said
EECA Chief Executive Mike Underhill.
“These organisations have stepped outside business-as-usual to tackle energy use head on. Whether they’re driven by
improving productivity, keeping families warm, or reducing CO2 emissions, they’ve all achieved great results and are
helping make New Zealand as a whole, healthier and more competitive.
“All our finalists have inspiring stories to tell. We’re looking forward to seeing who will take home the awards in
May.”
Collectively, the 2014 Award entries will save or generate energy worth around $100 million to entrants over the life of
the projects, and reduce CO2 emissions by 200,000 tonnes. On top of this, the combined health benefits are estimated at
around $24 million a year. Winners will be revealed on Wednesday 28 May at a ceremony in Auckland. The event is hosted
by EECA with support from Principal Sponsors Fujitsu General NZ, Opus International Consultants and Vector.
Minister of Energy and Resources Simon Bridges will present the Supreme Award, which is selected from the winners of
each category. This year a special Christchurch Energy Champion award has been added, to recognise people and projects
working to improve energy use in the city’s rebuild.
