Moky Gibson-Lane is a
Korean born kiwi cellist who has established herself on the
international music scene as a soloist and chamber musician.
She is currently visiting New Zealand from Taipei, Taiwan
where she is currently based. While here she is playing and
travelling the country with the NZSO which is performing
their Visions of Happiness programme.
After completing her cello studies in New Zealand with Euan Murdoch and Rolf Gjelsten, she continued her studies with a Master's degree at Rice University under Lynn Harrell. After winning numerous prizes in her native New Zealand, she moved to Berlin in 2006 and became a member of the Akademie of the Staatskapelle Berlin under mentorship of Daniel Barenboim. As she played part time in the orchestra, she became founding cellist of the Stabrawa Ensemble Berlin, led by Daniel Stabrawa (concertmaster) and other members of the Berlin philharmonic. During her time in Berlin, she was featured frequently on the ARTS channel as part of innovative chamber ensembles, and was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Perfect sense (recorded in Babelsberg Studios).
Moky has performed as a soloist under conductors including Marc Taddei, Lahav Sharni, Li Nien-Liang and as a chamber musician with artists such as Vadim Repin, Andreas Ottensammer, Christian Lindberg, Daniel Barenboim and Wang Pei-Yao. These performances have been at prestigious venues such as Spiegelsaal of Concertgebouw (where the performance of Ravel Trio was broadcast to Dutch radio) Hermann Wolf Saal, Kammermusik Saal of Berliner Philharmonie, Staatsoper unter den Linden- Berlin, Krakow music festival and Chiang Kai Shek National Concert Hall of Taiwan. Audience members have included Presidents Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton.

Catherine McKay was awarded an Associated Board Scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music in London with Irina Zaritskaya and went on to study and work in Canada, initially at the Banff Centre and then to complete the Diplôme d’Études Supérieures Spécialisées under Marc Durand in Piano performance & French at the Université de Montréal. Now based in Wellington she performs as solo pianist and chamber musician and works at Victoria University’s NZSM as accompanist and tutor in chamber music for their Young Musicians Programme. She also teaches piano and French. In 2008/9 she returned to the Banff Centre for to work as their collaborative pianist for their Fall & Winter semesters. In 2011 she lived in Venice for two months to play daily on the Parekowhai piano for visitors and present several concerts at the New Zealand Pavillion for the Venice Biennale. Throughout 2012 & 2013 she continued playing a series of solo recitals on this red Parekowhai piano now in Te Papa as its home. In NZ her teachers have been Jan Beck, Terence Dennis & Diedre Irons.
