Elite Thai Kickboxing’s popular King in the Ring is back again, this time headlined by an 8 man kickboxing tournament
packed with some of the best martial artists the lightweight range has to offer. The April 12 event, held at ASB
Stadium, Kohimarama, will see reigning King in the Ring 62kg Champion Sone “Arch Angel” Vannathy (49-17-1, 10 KOs) pit
himself against 7 other kickboxing titlists, some with multiple world title belts to their name.
Co-headlined by WKBF NZ Full Thai Heavyweight, Super Heavyweight, Super Cruiserweight and WKBF World Heavyweight king
Antz “Notorious” Nansen’s (30-4, 14KOs) Super Fight against current WMC Super Heavyweight champion Nato Laauli (28-4, 7
KOs) the event is studded with talent.
The undercard also features a rare female tournament bringing 4 fighters in from the length of the North Island.
Actress Gentiane Lupi has only been fighting for over a year but already brings a 6-1 record to the ring, including 2
wins by the short route.
I think the great thing about combat sports is that a lot of the fight is in your head and hopefully, being older, I
have heard those voices long enough to know how to silence the baddies and amplify the good ones.”
Fighting out of MTI Wellington, the Australian mother of three aims to leave no doubt to the result.
“My aim is to give the judges a break during my rounds."
4-1 Amy Vaughn was already a champion surf lifesaver as well as a competitive swimmer and rower before she found
kickboxing 6 years ago. The Napier raised ETK North Shore product has now been fighting for 2 years but has stated her
intentions.
“I want to win.”
With 10 years kickboxing experience under her belt Elite Thai Kickboxing’s Rochelle Stroh is, without a doubt, the most
experienced fighter in the tournament. The transplanted Australian owns 6 wins in 11 bouts in a pursuit far removed from
her career as a Commercial Analyst.
“I used to drive past a kickboxing gym on my way to high school every day. The week I finished high school I started
training.”
Representing PARS Gym, Rochelle McGee rounds out the lineup. The Kaikohe based fighter will be travelling down to
Auckland to put her undefeated 2-0 record on the line.
