Shout Out to Kiwis to Join Onesie World Record Attempt
The global onesie phenomenon is hitting New Zealand on Saturday 12 April as The Warehouse, the Home of Onesies, seeks to break the world record for the biggest gathering of onesie wearers, in independent attempts that will take place simultaneously in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
Four The Warehouse stores across the country will be getting in on the action, each attempting to smash the existing world record title - and all for a good cause, with proceeds from donations going to one of the retailer’s major national community partners, The Parenting Place.
The Warehouse CEO, Simon Turner says “Wearing onesies has become a massive global phenomenon and we know that Kiwis love our comfy one-piece leisurewear, so we thought we’d have a bit of fun and try and break the world record for the most onesie wearers in four cities - all at the same time.
“Not only is it going to be a whole lot of fun on the day for Kiwi families, but it’s a great way to see which city can claim the title of ‘New Zealand’s onesie capital’,” says Mr Turner.
If enough people join in the fun in a single city at 1:30pm on Saturday 12 April, a verification process to Guinness World Records will take place for that city to claim the onesie world record title.
Ringwood School in Hampshire, UK is waiting for official confirmation from Guinness World Records that their gathering of 1,184 onesie wearers on 16 February 2014 gives them the title - however the verified current Guinness World Record of 752 is held by Henry Allen Onesie Angels in Milton Keynes, UK.
The Warehouse stores which will be participating in the world record attempt are: Royal Oak, Auckland; Petone, Wellington; Eastgate, Christchurch and South Dunedin.
The action begins at 12:30pm outside each store, with activities including a sausage sizzle, spot prizes like a Sony 40 inch TV and an Apple iPod, plus a special $5 discount off onesies on the day; the final headcount of onesie wearers takes place at 1:30pm at each store.
The ZM Black Thunders will be on site keeping the crowd entertained in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin, while the Flava team will be amping up the onesie wearers in Christchurch.
To take part on the day, head to The Warehouse stores or visit www.thewarehouse.co.nz/onesieworldrecord to check out the huge range of onesies for the whole family with designs including novelty, superhero, licensed and the classic college look.
Onesie record attempt participants can make optional gold coin donations on the day to volunteers representing the Parenting Place, who will be fundraising on site.
