Fairshare App Mediates Household Responsibilities
By Jamie Neikrie
Anyone who has lived in a crowded house knows the challenges that come with multiple roommates.
Whether it’s fairly dividing household chores, equally paying bills, or keeping the house from falling into complete chaos, dealing with roommates is a constant struggle. In New Zealand, where skyrocketing housing costs have made communal living increasingly common, dealing with housemates is especially necessary.
Founded in 2013, Fairshare looks to ease that burden. The intelligent app, available for free on both Android and Apple stores, creates a digital household where users can balance house responsibilities.
The app splits chores into categories such as cooking, cleaning, outside, and communal, and allows house members to enter the amount of time spent on chores as well as the difficulty of each task. The goal is to record and equally balance house responsibilities, eliminating arguments later.
See an interview with one of the Fairshare’s creators, Jules Malseed-Harris, here: http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articles/22312/20140319/fairshare-app-makes-living-roommates-fun-household.htm
The app also features a financial aspect that allows users to keep track of bills and rent, reminding house members who owes what and when.
However, Fairshare’s smartest feature is the House Feed, a message board that can be used to plan house events or chat about chores. It makes an otherwise impersonal app feel more like a real house than a time sheet.
The App has a smart, easily accessible design. Check it out for yourself and see if it can help your house live better, together.
