The Search for the Great Kiwi Song
Their performance in the United Kingdom saw renowned dance theatre exponents Pilobolus craft a work to The Clash’s classic “London Calling” – and now, the company are looking for a song from our shores to
inspire a spectacular dance piece especially for the Auckland season of Shadowland.
THE EDGE are offering those who enter their pick for the great New Zealand song a chance to win one of three double passes to
the event, playing The Civic in Auckland on June 3rd. From there, all the song entries will be collated and submitted to
Pilobolus so they can pick a song and choreograph something especially for this Auckland season.
Pilobolus aren’t merely looking for a song by a New Zealand artist – rather, they are looking for thesong that
represents the location they are performing in, creating a segment in the show featuring music and images of the area
and are asking you for their help.
Could it be Patea Maori Club’s “Poi E”, or Split Enz’s “Six Months in a Leaky Boat”? Could it even be something from the
Shihad lads, or even modern day songstress Lorde or Aaradhna? Could it be something else completely different that
represents all of New Zealand?
Nominations can be made by visiting http://www.the-edge.co.nz/nzsongcompetition.aspx - where you can also take a look at what the theatre company did in London and find out more about Pilobolus.
