Free Goon this Wednesday!
No don’t panic – they haven’t been locked up. However, Goon are playing their last show for quite a while – and it’s FREE!
Aucklanders will have the chance to drop into a friendly local pub and catch Goon, Superturtle and Aletta play a free show this Wednesday evening. They’re playing at the cosy Clare Inn, located at 278 Dominion Rd, Mt Eden (just by the Dominion Road Countdown). Rochelle and Andrew are gearing up for the birth of their baby – so they’re taking some understandable time off from the band.
On a roll after releasing their third album, the three-piece rock sound created by Christian, Rochelle and Andrew is distinctive and punchy and its limitations tend to encourage simplicity of sound. Live, they are raw, run and riff-laden, with a catchy, driving guitar sound which really gets you going.
Goon emerged in 2003, won the York Street Acid Test which gave them their first success, and they released an EP called ‘Three Piece Of Love’. Their next release came in 2007 with ‘Boy Girl Boy’ which received excellent reviews. Now they have revealed their third album ‘Flying Numb’, filled with Goon’s eclectic style of fun catchy rock-poppers and moody atmospheric songs. They have achieved many things and accumulated a pile of attributes that can only be expected of a band that has stood the test of time. To date they have made 9 music videos, had several live TV and radio performances, featured on the bFM top ten with two number ones and had great reviews and fantastic gigs throughout the country. The latest single, ‘It’s Alright’ is a minimalistic catchy song that has already been picked up by the student radio network and featured on the kiwi fm top 20 and bFN top ten. New single ‘Just Be Friends’ recently hit number 2 on the bFM Top Ten.
