The multi-award winning Aussie maestro of suburban absurdism, Sam Simmons is bringing his show Problems to Auckland for the first time from 26 – 30 April as part of the2014 NZ International Comedy Festival.

He has collected awards, glowing reviews, and played to sell out houses around the world; he’s taken home the respected Festival Director's Choice Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (2008), while winning the Best Comedy Award at Adelaide Fringe (2011) while also racking up two nominations for the Barry Award for Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne Comedy Festival (2006, 2011) and for Best Comedy Award in Edinburgh (2011).

In 2012 Sam assembled a wonderful cast of Australia's pre-eminent absurdists for the television show Problems (ABC1) a four part journey through the cream brick neverland that is the Australian suburbs. In 2013, Problems was broadcast and received with applause throughout the UK on UKTV’s Dave.

Like Crocodile Dundee before him, international audiences immediately took to his eccentric style of comedy – from Europe to the Americas and beyond, the peak of Simmons’ rise in comedy saw him perform on Conan O’Brien’s TBS talk show, Conan – earning high praise from the beloved host who even went as far to remark “you’re a strange fellow” after his 5 minute set.

Sam has also performed his solo shows four times at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, twice at the prestigious invitation only Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival as well as JFL festivals in Chicago, Toronto and at the Sydney Opera House.

Now back in the Southern Hemisphere, Auckland audience have a chance to watch as another Aussie performer is destined to go off prawn in a hot sock in 2014.
