S.O.S fundraiser exhibtion at the Academy Galleries: Artists Donations Announced
The New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts was established in 1882 and is one of the country’s longest serving arts
institutions. Over the years the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts has had highs and lows. As a self-funded organisation
the institution has had to adapt in changing times to ensure its survival. What has remained over the years is the
support the Academy has offered to many artists.
Artists such as Evelyn Page, William Sutton, John Drawbridge, Doris Lusk, Mirek Smisek, Dame Rangimarie Hetet, Robyn
Kahukiwa, Doreen Blumhart, Avis Higgs and Peter McIntyre have been a part of the Academy’s history and have made major
contributions to New Zealand art history.
The Academy Galleries is holding a fundraising exhibition titled S.O.S and has had donations from the following artists:
Peter Augustin, Alison Boyce, Di Conway, Anthea Crozier, Fredricka Ernsten, Cindy Flook, Kirsty Fyfe, Ruth Gardiner,
Larrise Hall, Frances Hanson, Ellen Hodgetts, Fraser Hoffe, Susan Hurrell – Fields, Maas Huub, Anna Ivannoska, Vivian
Manthel – French, Wendy Masters, Karin McCombe – Jones, Alfred Memelink, Syd Moore, Peter Muller, Lee Robinson, Jenny
Shearer, Sue Shore, Robyn Taylor, Mary Thum and Miranda Woollett.
The exhibition features painting, photography, ceramics, jewellery and sculpture and is available for viewing from
Saturday 22 March at the Academy Galleries, 1 Queens Wharf, Wellington.
The artworks will be auctioned on Friday 4 April from 6 pm onwards. Tickets for S.O.S Auction Night are available for
purchase at the Academy Galleries. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts
to ensure it is able to continue supporting artists in the future.
