Trillian Variety Bash Starts Off In Style
Rainbows End hosts cheque handover for Kiwi kids
The Variety Trillian Bash started its 2014 event in fine style at Rainbows End, Auckland, with a breakfast cheque presentation, and a chance to take in some of the thrilling rides for 70 kids nominated by the Salvation Army and Stand Children’s Village in Auckland.
First up, young Manaia Taputu, whose $1700-cheque will pay for a specialized laptop to assist her education, handed to Manaia and her family by the team from the Argus Fire engine.
Then came cheeky Blayke Markham, his $579 presented by the Ford dealer team also for a modern tech tool that his dad says has helped dramatically improve his speaking skills – he could manage only three words by the age of five, but dad says he’s now catching up.
Lllaida Jonuzi could not attend, the $1700-cheque accepted on behalf by comic magician Super Hubert, over from Australia for the event.
The 25 teams of quirky characters run dressed-up classic cars and fire engines on the rally, and they love clowning around to entertain kids along the route. But it’s children like Manaia and Blayke, and the families working hard to support them, that fire their fund-raising efforts throughout the year.
Tomorrow they’ll be delivering Canon printers and Warehouse-donated laptops to schools from Waitomo to Bennydale, and on up to Rotorua.
Variety - The Children's Charity levels the playing field for disadvantaged Kiwi kids; and with around 265,000 Kiwi kids growing up in poverty our work is essential.
Every year we help over 10,000 local children - we meet their unmet health and education needs providing them with brighter futures.
We fund a broad range of requirements, from providing the basics of life, to much-needed medical equipment, to life-changing mobility needs, to innovative educational initiatives.
We work alongside schools, agencies and the government, tackling child poverty so the Kiwi kids who urgently need our life-changing assistance are set up to reach their full potential in life.
