Writers Invited To Enter Mind Body Spirit Book Awards

New Zealand writers with an interest in the Mind Body Spirit genre are encouraged to enter their uplifting works for the
2014 Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust Literature Awards.
This is the 11th year of the awards which recognises writers of both manuscripts and published books, and offers one of
the largest prizes for literature in New Zealand.
Spokesperson for The Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust, Adonia Wylie is encouraging everyone with an interest in the genre
to enter.
“Each year we receive a substantial number of entries in both categories. We enjoy reading the works produced and
extending our knowledge of the genre and we would like to encourage all New Zealand writers interested in the growing
Mind Body Spirit genre to submit their work.”
Last year, Tauranga’s Dr. Mike Godfrey won the $10,000 award in the Book category for his work, What’s The Matter? – A
Doctor’s Journey into Our Innate Spirituality. Mt Eden resident Keith Hill won the $10,000 award in the Unpublished
Manuscript category for his work, Practical Spirituality – How to Discover and Realise Your Life Plan.
The Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust was set up by Ashton Wylie in 1999 with its main intent being to promote more loving
relationships. The trust welcomes work from all religious and spiritual backgrounds.
For the purposes of the award, Mind Body Spirit is that which encompasses a wide range of beliefs and has higher
consciousness, expanded awareness and greater enlightenment as its goals.
The judging panel is looking at authorship and production values including illustration, design, typography and editing.
Consideration will also be given to the work’s ability to uplift and enhance the understanding of people and society.
Both awards will be presented at a ceremony at The Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust’s own venue, Hopetoun Alpha in Auckland
on Friday 15 August, 2014.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the awards, writers must be NZ citizens, or permanent residents, residing in the country. Unpublished
manuscripts must be submitted by 31 March 2014 and be a minimum of 20,000 words in length. Published books must be
submitted by 31 May 2014, should be 48 pages or longer and must have been published between 1 April 2013 and 31 March
2014.
About The Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust
The late Auckland businessman Ashton Wylie was a philanthropist with a wide range of interests particularly in the area
of personal development and positive relationships. The Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust was set up at Ashton's request and
was named after him.
Ashton Wylie believed that if one wanted to change the world, one had to first change oneself. Changes are then made by
example as ultimately, one can change for the better others that reside within one’s sphere of influence.
The Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust was set up following Ashton Wylie’s death in 1999 with the focus of inspiring loving
human relationships.
