“Back Green on Monday!” – The O’TAB
The Luck of the Irish takes on a whole new meaning for TAB punters betting on the Palmerston North Greyhounds and Te Teko Thoroughbreds this St Patrick’s Day, 17 March.
“Make sure you back green for a win at on St Patrick’s Day,” Executive General Manager TAB, Glenn Patrick said. “In Greyhound racing, the dog wearing Number 6 traditionally wears green so we thought it would be a celebratory ‘bit o fun’ to mark St Patrick’s Day by having all our 17 March domestic race day Number 6s donning the colour at both racing events. That means the Number 6 horses at Te Teko Thoroughbreds will also be wearing green in the form of a saddle blanket.
“To keep more than just Irish eyes smiling if punters back Number 6 in a race and it doesn’t win, but places 2nd or 3rd,, they’ll get their money back...and that’s a ‘to be sure’ thing. In fact, the NZ Racing Board returns around 80c of every dollar spent at the TAB to customers in winnings. The rest goes to helping sustain the racing industry and to a wide variety of National Sporting Organisations,” Mr Patrick said.
