Come Together, Cruise the Bays and Celebrate Your Super Power Next Friday
Auckland, 14 March 2014 - Around 100 members of the disabled community along with friends, whanau and caregivers are
expected to take to the streets next Friday in the third annual Cruise the Bays event at Mission Bay.
Cruise the Bays is a 1.2 kilometre-long walking and cruising event especially developed for the disabled, their support networks and
the wider public. The theme for the event is superheroes and activities throughout the day will be geared towards
celebrating the super power that exists in each of us.
Cruise the Bays has been running for two years now, and until 2014 was organised by Iris Health. Iris has recently been acquired by
Geneva Healthcare and the integrated organisation is looking forward to a big turnout at this year’s event.
Geneva Healthcare’s Founder and CEO Josephine Wallis says that there are big plans in store for the coming years.
“As an organisation we are passionate about providing New Zealand with quality healthcare services and support. We’re
bringing this commitment to life with Cruise the Bays, which we believe is a platform that can develop into one that helps to create even stronger links between the disabled
community and wider New Zealand.
“One in five New Zealanders is affected by some form of disability and it’s our vision that in coming years the event
grows in size and scale so that more and more Kiwis can come together and celebrate their super powers.
“It is by creating environments where we encourage interaction between communities that perhaps don’t always get the
opportunity to come together, with a healthy dose of laughter, spirit and pride, that we will achieve our goal of
bringing people together and making a world of difference,” says Josephine.
Cruise the Bays will take place next Friday, March 21st. The event will start and finish at the Mission Bay Fountain and participants
are invited to arrive anytime (in superhero costume, if you wish) from10am. The walk/cruise will kick off at 11am with
BBQ and other entertainment on offer at the end.
