S.O.S Fundraising exhibition at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts
The New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts was established in 1882 and is one of the country’s longest serving arts institutions. Over the years the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts has had highs and lows. As a self-funded organisation the institution has had to adapt in changing times to ensure its survival. What has remained over the years is the support the Academy has offered to many artists.
Artists such as Evelyn Page, William Sutton, John Drawbridge, Doris Lusk, Mirek Smisek, Dame Rangimarie Hetet, Robyn Kahukiwa, Doreen Blumhart, Avis Higgs and Peter McIntyre have been a part of the Academy’s history and have made major contributions to New Zealand art history.
The Academy Galleries are holding a fundraising exhibition and are asking for donations of artist works to be auctioned on Friday 4 April 2014. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts to ensure it is able to continue supporting artists in the future.
