Support for 'Reclaiming Another Woman' in the Waikato

Support for RAW in the Waikato has been overwhelming!

The pilot of the Reclaiming Another Woman (RAW) programme has been a ‘huge success’ according to its founder, Annah Stretton.

“We have been overwhelmed with the number of women who have reached out for support and we are only two weeks old,” says Stretton, who launched RAW this month in the Waikato.

RAW exists to support all women in finding a safe and meaningful pathway forward that is free from violence as they look to achieve the life that they desire.

The program will move throughout the country in the coming months.

More than 30 Waikato women have joined the mentoring service so far and have been set up with educational programmes that include nursing, literacy and social services as well as having dental work done and sitting driver’s licenses.

”RAW believes that educating women is fundamental to breaking the cycle of family violence in New Zealand, therefore RAW will ensure all women have access to relevant and achievable educational programs.”

With the assistance of an “outstanding” pool of mentors Stretton has set a goal of providing at least 1000 women with the keys they need to lead successful lives and she is now looking to broaden the group of capable supporters.

“Becoming a RAW mentor is an incredibly rewarding experience. With the support of the RAW administrative team you will walk side-by-side with a woman who has left the refuge environment and work with her as she establishes a successful pathway forward.”
