Z searches for NZ’s most delectable pie
Z Energy is calling out to kiwi pie lovers and MasterChef aspirants, offering $5000 plus bragging rights for the creator of NZ’s most delectable pie.
The winner of Z’s inaugural DIY Pie challenge will become World Famous in NZ, with their winning pie concept being made and sold at Z stations nationwide.
The DIY Pie challenge runs throughout March: officially Pie Month at Z.
Pie Month also comes with Pie Day Fridays – giving adventurous pie lovers one Pie Day only to try one-off, unique to Z pie flavours. Pie Day Fridays start on 7 March with ‘The Deluxe’ – tender pieces of chicken breast, a dollop of cream cheese, asparagus and bacon.
Pie Day Fridays will likely be the only chance many kiwis ever get to try an Italian meatball pie made with chunky meatballs, tomato, onion, garlic, basil oregano and creamy mozzarella cheese sauce; a breakfast pie stuffed with cheesy sausages, smoky bacon, baked beans and egg; or the chilli con carne pie with beef mince, spicy Mexican beans, bell peppers, sour cream and spicy nacho cheese.
Z GM Retail Mark Forsyth says Pie Month will be a celebration of all things pies.
“Z is for New Zealand, and New Zealanders love their pies… so we figure it’s our duty to dedicate a whole month to pies,” Mark says. “We’ve had a tough job testing recipes to bring New Zealanders for our Pie Day Fridays, and now we’re looking forward to hearing their ideas for great pie creations,’ Mark says.
Z’s judging panel for the DIY Pie challenge will include NZ Bakels National Pie Awards judge Phil Pollett of Goodtime pies, along with an expert panel of Z ‘pie analysts’. Z’s followers on Facebook will also get to have their say – the creator of the DIY pie that gets the most public votes will win $1,000 and a year’s worth of pies.
Z’s also giving away a year’s worth of pies to one lucky pie fan every day throughout Pie Month (that’s one pie a week for each winner, not one a day!).
