Plunket thrilled to be meeting the young Royal family
The Royal New Zealand Plunket Society is delighted with the news from Kensington Palace and the New Zealand Royal Visit Office today that they are to be a part of the upcoming visit by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and baby Prince George.
“We are just so excited to be a part of the visit. Their time in New Zealand is so limited so to get the opportunity to introduce them to Plunket is such an honour”, says Plunket New Zealand President Tristine Clark.
Plunket was granted permission to use the title ‘Royal’ almost 100 years ago, in June 1915, by King George V.
“Plunket books are a treasured kiwi keepsake and we will be presenting Their Royal Highnesses with a Plunket book and Plunket blue bear for Prince George. It’s lovely to think that he will be a Plunket baby!”
Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will meet some Plunket parents and join in a Plunket parent support group with young children the same age as the Prince.
“Becoming a new parent and raising children brings great changes and challenges. Plunket parent groups – whether they are support groups, playgroups or parenting education groups – are a place to meet other parents and learn from each other in a fun, relaxed environment. They are also a great way to help children interact with each other and begin to develop their social skills”, says Mrs Clark.
“It will be wonderful for Their Royal Highnesses to experience what it’s like to be part of one of these groups and talk to other parents going through the same experiences”.
“Plunket has been welcomed into the homes of New Zealand families for over 100 years - giving New Zealand parents the support they need to nurture healthy, happy kiwi babies. Nine out of 10 New Zealanders are ‘Plunket babies’.
“We’re a kiwi icon, as much a part of our culture as hokey pokey and pavlova! There is nothing else like Plunket anywhere in the world. This is a great opportunity to showcase New Zealand’s innovative approach to caring for children, families and communities”.
A Plunket nurse and approximately 10 Plunket families and their young ones will meet Their Royal Highnesses at Government House in Wellington on Wednesday 9 April.
