Unforgettable adventure finds Wild Boy back in North Island
Brando Yelavich aka the Wild Boy is midway through his “epic adventure”
circumnavigating New Zealand’s coasts solo! The 20 year old has undertaken on this challenge to raise funds for New Zealand’s Ronald McDonald Houses that take care of thousands of Kiwi families by providing free accommodation and support whilst their children receive specialist medical treatment in hospitals located far from home.
Brando is covering the distance one step at a time, not relying on anything else. He walks, runs, kayaks and swims across our vast land while catching his own dinner and if he doesn’t find anything, he simply doesn’t eat.
Brando is days away from landing in the Capital City which is no mean feat for a 20 year old who is self-reliant on his journey. Upon his arrival into Wellington on Tuesday 4th special Powhiri will be performed by the Wellington East Girls High School Kapa Haka group at the Interislander terminal, which is open to the public. We hope for a big crowd turn out to cheer Brando along and show our support.
Brando has already exceeded his fundraising goal of $10,000.00, and the current tally of $10,700.00 continues to rise.
Ronald McDonald Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest. We believe that when a child is hospitalised the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed.
The funds raised from Brando’s incredible efforts will go directly to the operations of the Houses.
Keep a look out in the Wellington area for Brando – you won’t miss his 35KG rucksack! If you can offer a ride or a bite to eat this will be greatly appreciated. Wellington’s CQ Hotel has already given Brando a warm bed whilst in Wellington. New Zealand’s ‘small and friendly’ reputation is being highlighted as locals are already showing this young man kindness along route.
