The Warehouse Zoofari raises $25K for low decile schools to visit Wellington Zoo
This week The Warehouse presented Wellington Zoo with a cheque for just over $25,000 – the result of in-store
fundraising to support low decile schools from the Wellington region to visit the Zoo.
The Warehouse Zoofari is a three-year partnership between Wellington Zoo and The Warehouse, which began in 2013 with fundraising in The
Warehouse’s Wellington stores.
The proceeds are to go towards enabling students from decile 1-3 schools to experience conservation-based learning
programmes at the Zoo, and assisting with transport costs to Wellington Zoo.
“Wellington Zoo and The Warehouse are both very involved in our communities, and The Warehouse Zoofari is a fantastic initiative that aims to make Zoo-based learning as accessible to our community as possible,” said Karen
Fifield, Wellington Zoo Chief Executive.
”All kids should have the chance to connect with nature on a personal level, and the unique learning environment at
Wellington Zoo can help them do just that.”

the Zoo this year,” said Tere Maden, Store Manager of The Warehouse Paraparaumu.
“The Zoo has developed some very exciting new precincts that children will have great fun visiting, and they’ll have a
great learning experience.”
Nearly 10,000 students from over 250 schools visited Wellington Zoo in 2013 to participate in Ministry of Education
Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC) programmes.
Wellington Zoo is currently receiving Zoofari applications from schools.
