Meros offers tips to World's New Rich for Dating Westerners
Two years travelling back and forth across Asia proved one thing to Wellington author Richard Meros.
These days, he realised, globalisation is on everybody’s lips. But have our considerations of world trade have focussed too much attention on goods and too little on love. And why is it that the New Rich from the Developing World can possess all that they see on TV except Westerners?
This question and many, many more are answered in Dating Westererns: tips for the New Rich of the Developing World.
“This book is the ladder up to the great big melting pot off racial harmony. It sits comfortably alongside local examples such as Donna Awatere’s outline of ‘cosmic-orgasmic unity’ in Maori Sovereignty, local chapters of the more successful strategies of the late Rev. Sun Myung Moon, and the well-meaning but rather racist version of ‘Melting Pot’ by When the Cat’s Away” said Meros.
Dating Westerners features everything the prospective lover of Westerners could need from a ‘Who’s Who? What’s What?’ that explains key ideas in more depth, to an 'English Expander' section, to bullet-pointed Learning Outcomes at the beginning of each chapter.
“While most New Rich will speak crisp English, I have also reduced the text into a forty page simple English version of the book available for free pdf download at www.richardmeros.com or participating torrent sites.”
Some tips:
• “Dating a very ugly Westerner will allow you to hone your language skills before moving onto sweeter honey.”
• “Once you are done with dating the Westerner you can end the relationship by simply saying ‘I want to end the relationship’.”
• “One-liners from Hollywood films do not work on native English speakers.”
Richard Meros is a Wellington-based writer. His travel writing has appeared in the NZ Listener and the Dominion Post; he has also published with Hue & Cry, White Fungus and with arts curators Letting Space. He is perhaps best known for the theatrical adaptions of his books On the conditions and possibilities of Helen Clark taking me as her Young Lover, Richard Meros salutes the Southern Man and Privatising Parts.
Dating Westerners: tips for the New Rich of the Developing World will be launched by Lawrence & Gibson publishing at 19 Tory St, 6pm Wednesday March 5th, in conjunction with Thomasin Sleigh’s Ad Lib.
