Water Blast cancelled
The Water Blast event scheduled for Saturday 1 March has been cancelled due to the water quality at the South New Brighton entrance to the Estuary.
Christchurch City Council Recreation and Sports Unit Manager John Filsell says that the waters where the event was set to take place have been identified by Environment Canterbury (ECan) as having a harmful level of E. coli bacteria.
“This is a serious matter and we don’t want to put anyone at risk so, unfortunately, the Council has had to cancel the Water Blast,” Mr Filsell says. “We’d like to apologise for the short notice of the cancellation and assure the public that ECan is addressing the issue.
“A tremendous amount of work has gone into the Water Blast, and we hope to work together with the Pleasant Point Yacht Club again soon to create another great event for South Brighton and the wider community.”
