Two new exhibitions commencing at Solander on Wednesday 5 March.
Nigel Brown: Waterfalls
This exhibition of works on paper springs from a waterfall visited during a Dusky Sound trip in 2009 on the MV Pembroke; "we were primarily there because William Hodges, Captain Cook’s artist, had been there before us". Nigel depicts a specific waterfall with his characteristic vernacular undertones. The waterfall is overlaid with a stream of consciousness, text informed by the local, international or insights gleaned from Nigel's reading and internet research.
Locust Jones: made in johannesburg
Born in New Zealand and now residing in Australia, Locust has been largely influenced by his interest in world politics and his travel experiences. 'made in johannesburg' is an exhibition of works created during a 2012 residency in Johannesburg, South Africa at David Krut Print Workshop. This exhibition reflects on the political, cultural, environmental and personal experiences of an artist in a country that he refers to as ‘a land of contradictions’ and ‘an infinitely exciting place to make work in’.
**Please Note** There will be NO Wednesday night opening event. We look forward to seeing you at our Meet The Artist event onSaturday 8 March, details below.
