Seven teams sign up for round three of Placemaking Palmerston North
Team ‘Passionate about Broadway’ and six other groups from around the City have signed up for the challenge of reclaiming their spaces in the third round of Placemaking Palmerston North, to be launched at a public event on Thursday 27 February.
The seven teams consist of professional, retail and residential groups.
“It’s great to see such a varied group getting involved” said Jennifer Esterman, Palmerston North City Council’s policy planner (urban design).
The other six teams include retailer groups Clearway and the Reclaimed Timber Traders and residential groups Wooly Riot, known for their yarn bombing antics, and the returning Urban Savages. Two professional groups, which are formed within an organisation rather than across businesses, are also involved - the YMCA All Stars and the Department of Internal Affairs.
“The launch is an opportunity for the new teams to meet one another and some of the ‘Placemaking champions’ of our City,” Jennifer said.
“Intended as an inspirational kick-start, the launch will include stories of personal Placemaking experiences from champions Shaun Kay of Groovylicious in Little Cuba, Chrissy Paul from the Highbury Social Club and Rodnie Derret from the Urban Savages.”
The new teams will receive their Placemaking DIY kits from Council at the launch night. The kits contain a dialogue, tools and inspiration to get the teams started on their project.
“It’s wonderful to have so many people involved in this round of Placemaking. Being involved in Placemaking allows residents and retailers the chance to think creatively, take action in reclaiming ownership of their street, making it a great place for everyone.”
Round three will be launched on Thursday, 27 February in the City Library on Level 2 from 5.30pm and is open to all.
