The world-renowned exhibition, on loan from the Natural History Museum in London, opens exclusively at the Auckland
Museum on the 25th April. After a hugely successful previous season in 2012, the exhibition returns to our shores and is
once again brought to you free. The exhibition covers fascinating animal behaviours through to breath-taking wild
landscapes with a series of over 100 awe-inspiring images, brought to life in amazing detail with new image enhancing
large back-lit light panels.
Now in its 49th year, the internationally-recognised annual competition has drawn around 43,000 entries from 96
countries, from amateur and professional photographers alike. The rigorous selection process has brought together judges
from across the globe, to choose the best entries based on creativity, artistry and technical complexity.
Through the lens of wildlife photography, the exhibition captures the intrigue and beauty of our planet, promoting the
discovery, understanding and responsible enjoyment of the natural world.
Chair of the judging panel, Jim Brandenburg says: “These talented photographers have made capturing wildlife on camera a true art form. They have given us a rare glimpse
into moments in nature and places on our Earth that are constantly changing but, through their photographs, can be
enjoyed by future generations. I am honoured to be a part of such an important competition.”
The exhibition at the Auckland Museum forms part of a tour which spans the globe as well as several venues across the
UK.
