Ryo Terakado, concertmaster of Bach Collegium Japan will be in New Zealand next week and is making a special trip to Auckland to work with NZ Barok, New Zealand’s Baroque Orchestra.

International recording artist, widespread performer and baroque violin teacher at the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague, Ryo will be leading a practical workshop with NZ Barok in baroque music performance, interpretation and technique.

Ryo Terakado is in New Zealand to lead Bach Collegium Japan, one of the highlights of this year’s International Festival of the Arts in Wellington. Ryo is based in Belgium and teaches in Holland where he taught NZ Barok’s artistic co-director Miranda Hutton. His own teacher was Sigiswald Kuijken who taught NZ Barok’s artistic co-director Graham McPhail and other members of the orchestra.

NZ Barok (the Dutch spelling of baroque) specifically espouses the Dutch/Belgian tradition in baroque music performance, which has taken a distinctive path in this burgeoning international movement, so this is a valuable opportunity to extend the connection with one of the principal practioners in the field.

Funded by Creative NZ, this workshop is open to the public. Register your interest by emailing nzbarok@gmail.com.

The workshop will take place on Saturday 1st March 2014 at Subud Hall, 19 Formby Ave, Pt Chevalier, Auckland from 10.00 – 1.00pm and 2.30 – 5.30pm. The cost for observers is $20 per session or $30 for the whole day. Lunch included.
