Full House, No Problem for APO Concert
Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s ‘Organ Symphony’ concert is almost sold out, but even those without a ticket can catch
the performance live.
The 27 February concert, which features Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.1 (with Ukrainian star Alexander Gavrylyuk on
piano) and Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No.3 (the ‘Organ Symphony’ of the concert’s title), will be streamed online, and
available to watch for free on both the APO’s own website (apo.co.nz) and Radio New Zealand’s (radionz.co.nz). The APO
already broadcasts its concerts on Radio New Zealand but this is the first time people will be able to watch a full
performance as well as listen.
“There’s nothing quite like actually being there,” says APO Chief Executive Barbara Glaser, “but for anyone who can’t
make it to Auckland that night, this is the perfect solution. We’re committed to reaching as many people as possible,
and technology now gives everyone the chance to see a top orchestra play some wonderful music.”
The concert can be viewed on internet-connected devices including smart TVs and even Apple iPhones.
The award-winning production team behind the broadcast is JX Live, which is also an APO sponsor.
“This technology is still pretty new but it means anyone in the world can watch the APO,” says JX Live’s Andy Jalfon.
“The orchestra is tapping in to a digital-savvy audience, so even more people can enjoy the concert and nobody need miss
out.”
As well as the live stream, the concert will be available to view on the APO website until 14 March.
