Volunteer drivers needed to chauffer the stars and players of NZ Open
Golf enthusiasts and those wanting to be part of the action still have a chance to sign up as volunteer drivers for the New Zealand Open.
Volunteer co-ordinator Sue McFarlane said volunteer drivers were still “very much needed” for the event held from February 27 to March 2 2014 at The Hills golf course and Millbrook Golf Resort in Queenstown.
“We’ve had such a great response so far but due to the scale of the event and the growth over the last few years we need more willing helping hands,” she said.
“We’re still looking for five to six volunteer drivers each day to transport officials and sponsors as well as the professional and celebrity players.
“Shifts are split into morning and evening shifts giving plenty of time to watch the tournament,” said Mrs McFarlane.
“It’s such a great team to be part of; there’s a real sense of camaraderie and you get to enjoy the amazing scenery of two world-class golf courses.”
Successful applicants must be over 25 with a full valid driver’s licence and will have the chance to chauffer an impressive line-up of sporting heroes taking part including Jeff Wilson, Ricky Ponting and Stephen Fleming.
Other big names participating in the tournament include Cris Judd, Phil Keoghan, and Josh Emett and professional golfers such as Michael Hendry, Rocco Mediate, Scott Hend and Gareth Paddison.
Volunteers are asked for a minimum commitment of six hours on any given day, and in return will benefit from free tournament admission and parking, a commemorative shirt and cap, lunch each day, and a special ‘thank you’ function on the Saturday night.
Those who volunteer for at least four days will receive a complimentary round of golf at either The Hills or Millbrook and two day volunteers a complimentary round of golf at Millbrook.
Prospective volunteers can register their interest by forwarding their details via email, along with name, a contact phone no, Club ID, shirt size and number of days they are available to assist to Sue McFarlane at volunteer@nzopen.co.nz.
