McCaw’s leadership recognised through award

Richie McCaw has been honoured at the 51st Westpac Halberg Awards with the All Blacks captain receiving the Sport New Zealand Leadership Award.

Sport New Zealand Chief Executive Peter Miskimmin said the leadership award recognises McCaw’s ability to inspire people to believe not only in him, but more importantly, to believe in themselves.

“Richie (McCaw) totally deserves the Sport New Zealand Leadership Award in recognition of the massive contribution he’s made as a leader of men, a leader of teams and the amazing results his leadership has contributed to,” said Peter Miskimmin.

“His unshakeable self-belief and ability to impart a never-give-up attitude on his team mates has been instrumental in helping his team win many tight battles.

“But it’s not only his on field leadership that impresses and inspires, McCaw has also been an active and influential board member of the New Zealand Rugby Players’ Association.

“He’s also earned the support and respect of the nation through his humble and down-to-earth nature, and I’m sure the country will continue to be right behind Richie as we build towards the 2015 Rugby World Cup.”

Working with the sector to improve governance and leadership capability is an area of focus for Sport New Zealand. As such, sponsorship of the Leadership Award at the Westpac Halberg Awards, is a fitting way to recognise an individual who has displayed inspiring, focused and effective sports leadership.
