Another win helps McNee extend TR86 championship lead
Young Wellingtonian Jamie McNee has extended his TR86 championship lead, after taking out last weekend’s round in Manfeild.
The win followed a torrid battle with Aucklander Andrew Waite, with the pair fighting it out in the TR86 class all weekend, finishing close on the points. The result sees McNee extending his lead in the new Toyota TR86 motorsport championship.
McNee in his Talley’s sponsored car came into the round with a slim lead in the championship after finishing 2nd, 4th and 2nd in the first three rounds. He also became the only driver to win in all 4 rounds of the championship completed so far.
McNee, who has returned to racing this season, says the competition over the weekend was tough.
“Andrew made me work hard for the win. We came together a couple of times and we've got a few repairs to make to the Talley's car for the next round at Taupo next month.”
The Toyota TR86 is a new one make racing class, which is a full Motorsport NZ championship. The cars are identical ensuring it is driver skill that comes out on top.
Jamie McNee is a Commerce student at Victoria University, and is a former NZ national kart champion and finished 3rd in the Toyota Racing Series.
