I Lost It In Kiev
Written & Performed By
Deb Filler
[workshop info below]
Travel with Deb through a highly entertaining evening of stories and song from this acclaimed one-woman tour de force, as she schleps through the backstreets of the world with her show I Lost It In Kiev playing 11-14 March at Auckland’s Musgrove Studio, Maidment Theatre.
"Filler is a complete chameleon, transforming herself instantly into dozens of relatives and accents ... exhilarating and liberating." The Independent (London)
Expat Toronto-based comedienne Deb Filler is back after four years with four shows only. Stories rich and hilarious sharing her travails and travels around the world, most recently to the Ukraine. And it’s not always a straightforward journey!
"An extraordinary story-teller..." Village Voice
Renowned for her rich character portrayals (36 characters in Punch Me in the Stomach, 27 characters in Filler Up! as she baked bread live onstage), Deb has performed all over New Zealand and internationally. From off Broadway’s New York Theatre Workshop (alumni include RENT’s Jonathan Larson, playwrights Caryl Churchill, Tony Kushner and Doug Wright) where Deb’s internationally successful play Punch Me in the Stomach began its life to Berlin, Edinburgh, Los Angeles, London, Melbourne and Montreal - Deb is a master story teller who has held audiences in the palm of her hand with her stories of fact and fiction.
Home with a brand new set of true stories, we weave in and around the best restaurants of Paris, a Kibbutz in Israel, to Canada, then back to Paris again. We meet Nazis in New Zealand and share a never to be forgotten experience in the Ukraine. If life is a colourful learning curve, is there such a thing as ‘enough already’?
Be there to see Deb return to the New Zealand stage!

Deb Filler To Hold Comedy
Storytelling Workshops
Deb Filler will be
holding three intensive Comedy Storytelling workshops in
both Auckland and Wellington. The workshops aim is to give
participants skills to help unleash their ‘inner story
teller’. With Beginner and Master classes on offer –
there is something for everyone.
The course includes skills to help develop strong story telling techniques, story structure, character work (physical and vocal techniques) and, due to the limited class size, students will receive over 20 hours of instruction with individualised attention.
After each of the four days, course participants will have a ten minute performable story/presentation/written piece for print or film.
This is an opportunity for people to share a story using theatre, stand-up comedy, storytelling, presentation, dance, music or the written word.
‘It’s hard to imagine teaching the solo class without the infusion of fresh energy and skill that Deb brings with her at exactly the time it is most needed. Be assured that she is revered and loved by every student she touches.” Lowry Marshall, Professor, Brown University.
“Working with Deb was truly a fantastic experience! If you allow yourself to be vulnerable and open, Deb will meet you with her extraordinary compassion, and, empathy. She will also challenge you. In turn, you will access talent within that you did not know existed.” Patrick Cadegan (Actor/Writer)
