LIFEHACK to unleash creativity of the Garden City
New Zealand's first social innovation lab focused on youth wellbeing is returning to Christchurch in March to unleash creativity in the Garden City.
In 2013, LIFEHACK was launched as a response to the growing opportunity to improve youth wellbeing through digital technology. Four events were held across the country where a number of youth wellness tech ideas were formed out of the weekend experiences.
“We're very excited to be getting back on the road to take LIFEHACK out of the main centres and into regional New Zealand. That said, there's such exciting opportunities to make a difference in Christchurch that we decided to start the year there.” says Sam Rye from LIFEHACK.
This year the event will focus on harnessing the creativity, talent and passion of local people to work on several challenges which will be developed by local charities and social ventures alongside LIFEHACK. The 48 hour event will run from Friday night through to Sunday with only 30 spots available. Applications are open now.
“We decided to give the events a more local focus this year because we believe in the power of local solutions for local problems." said Chelsea Robinson from LIFEHACK. "We're enabling people to keep focused through the weekend on real problems, which means they will make meaningful impact on youth wellbeing in their own communities."
LIFEHACK has also indicated they will run a 'Labs' program later in the year which aims to trial rapid skills development and prototyping for technology addressing youth wellness. The fast expansion of mobile technology in New Zealand heralds some interesting opportunities for how people can use their
LIFEHACK was established in 2013 thanks to the Prime Minister's focus on tackling youth mental health and is focused on preventative mental health strategies and action through collaborative entrepreneurship and technology.
Applications for the Christchurch Weekend are open now.
