Len Lye at WOMAD
A new event at WOMAD this year is the Len Lye film evenings
Especially selected for the festival for their musical content, some of the films are rarely seen, particularly Peanut
Vendor (1934), Tal Farlow (1980) and Color Cry (1952).
The films have been selected to highlight the importance of music to Lye’s practice.
The Govett Brewster Art Gallery event consists of six short films and will be screened twice every night of the WOMAD
festival at the Pinetum stage.
The films are:
. Swinging the Lambeth Walk (1939) 4 min
· A Colour Box (1935) 4 min
· Peanut Vendor (1934) 3 min
· Free Radicals (1958) 5 min
· Color Cry (1952) 3 min
· Tal Farlow (1980) 1min 30 sec
The three-minute promotional film to highlight the Len Lye Centre
project will also be screened.
Curated by Roger Horrocks from the Len Lye Foundation, the sound tracks to the films are WOMAD-inspired, a mix of
international music including Latin and African alongside American jazz and blues jazz.
People can listen to the music through available headphones.
