McNee leaps to the front of the field in Toyota TR86 series
Former Toyota Racing series placegetter Jamie McNee leapt to the front of the TR86 class with a consistent
first,second,second performance at Hampton Downs on the weekend.
McNee is now 52 points clear at the top of the table from Tom Alexander, after the latter had a difficult weekend with
car setup. It was a good recovery for McNee after he was side-lined in race one at Pukekohe with a jammed throttle.
McNee also became the only driver to win at all 3 rounds of the championship.
“My Talley’s- sponsored car was handling great, and I really love the track at Hampton Downs. We didn’t quite have the
pace in qualifying but I made up places in all the races,” Jamie says
McNee battled with seasoned professional driver Andrew Waite for the lead in all three races – with Waite finally coming
out on top for the round. But McNee was holding back a little to ensure he took home the points to take him clear at the
top of the table.
“I could have made a move for the win in the final race of the day once I caught up with Andrew (Waite), but decided it
was better to consolidate my points and make sure I got the lead in the championship.”
Next weekend the TR86s head to Manfeild, Wellingtonian McNee’s home track. It will bring back memories of racing Formula
First, Formula Ford, and the Toyota Racing series at the track, where McNee finished sixth in the NZ Grand Prix in 2010.
Toyota TR86 is a once make class for Toyota TR86 sports cars.
