The Get Active Challenge Exceeds its Goal
By Cityfitness, January 2014
Beginning in October 2013, Cityfitness and the NZ Heart Foundation travelled the country challenging Kiwis to put their
health in check and take part in a ‘Get Active’ challenge resulting in Cityfitness raising $20,000 for the Heart
Foundation.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Cityfitness for their amazing fundraising efforts during the Get Active Challenge,” said
Heart Foundation Marketing and Communications manager, Paul Scoringe.“The funds raised will go toward life-saving heart
research, programmes to encourage healthy lifestyle changes and helping people affected by heart disease,” he continued.
Starting in Auckland, the Cityfitness Team traveled South in their custom built mobile gym encouraging individuals to
join approximately 15,000 others taking part in the Get Active Challenge to improve their health and collectively burn
100 million calories. The challenge not only exceeded their goals and expectations, but also won the Innovation Award at
the NZ Fitness Awards.
Now that the Get Active Challenge has finished, Cityfitness continues to support the NZ Heart Foundation and will back
them during Heart Week, the charity’s annual appeal which runs from February 10th to February 16th. Heart Week is a
reminder for us to love our hearts and to keep them healthy.
“Cityfitness is committed to taking every opportunity to make NZ the healthiest nation in the world and are proud to
work with the nation’s leaders in helping to make that vision a reality. Cityfitness along with the Heart Foundation
will continue to work diligently to ensure that heart disease no longer remains New Zealand’s most common cause of death
annually by getting New Zealand active,” quoted Doug Hatten, COO of Cityfitness.
