Wellington Fashion Week Goes International

Published: Mon 27 Jan 2014 03:42 PM
Wellington Fashion Week is back for its third consecutive year and is guaranteed to demand international attention and praise. With more emphasis on trade and an international audience, organisers vow this year’s event will be a game-changer for the industry.
The event, estimated to attract over 15,000 consumers and industry figures to the capital, is set to take place from 9-13 April at the awe-inspiring waterfront event and conference venue, Shed 6 in Wellington.
The 2014 event schedule is double that of the previous year, with spots for 55 designers, 20 fashion shows, consumer health and beauty events, jewellery exhibitions and an exclusive media seminar.
FashionTV, the world's only international live broadcasting fashion TV channel, is confirmed to capture this year's event, broadcasting New Zealand fashion to millions worldwide.
Coupled with the international attention driven by fashionTV, Wellington Fashion Week directors, Cameron Sneddon and Craig Mills, have also announced their attendance at Hong Kong Fashion Week in July this year.
10 designers who will participate in Wellington Fashion Week 2014, also have the opportunity to show at the World Boutique lounge to a market of buyers and media from around the world.
Sneddon says that the opportunity for designers to showcase their brands internationally is becoming harder to achieve and typically very costly.
"It is becoming more and more difficult for designers in New Zealand to gain international attention and exposure - we're offering an unprecedented opportunity to showcase New Zealand fashion on the world stage for a fraction of the price".
With two successful events under the Wellington Fashion Week team’s belts, Sneddon and Mills, have created a new-look structure established through a partnership with New Zealand Apparel Magazine, emphasising the necessity for exclusive trade only shows.
“This year we are excited to focus attention on holding more buyer and trade focused events with the help of our newly established collaboration with New Zealand Apparel Magazine”, says Mills.
"I think we've really achieved the balance between current consumer shows and trade this year. We're excited and confident our structure is a game-changer", continues Sneddon.
Tickets are available from February and start from just $29 at Ticketek.co.nz.'Waitlist' bookings are available now.
Designer line-up announcements will be made from February onwards.
